New Year. New You. That’s what it’s supposed to be each and every transition from old year to new year, right? What if we kind of like the old us? What if everything’s not broken? What if we only need a bit of a tweak here and there? What if you could take one small thing and change your life around pretty substantially?
Well, that is the premise of New York Times bestseller Joyce Meyer’s Power Words: What You Say Can Change Your Life published on December 1st, 2015. It is already number 15 in its top Amazon category.
I started reading Power Words on my commute home after a long first day back to work after a fortnight off. Can we talk about the headache?! I put the pain aside and focused on the words in front of me. I had to pull out my highlighter beginning with the introduction. I underlined a wonderful affirmation of Meyer’s: God’s healing power is working in me and every day I get better and better in every way.” My headache eased after reading this passage a few times.
The chapters are short; easily digestible. A balm for the commuter’s soul. In Chapter 1, I found this gem for when you tell yourself you’re crazy, or something close to it. “I have a sound mind!” Meyer writes, “If you ever…feel you are truly having some type of problem with your mind, pray about it and then start speaking good things about your mental capacity so your future can be different from what your past has been.” (Page 7)
Scripture based, Meyer’s book Power Words, shares pertinent Bible scriptures that speak to the efficacy of positive word choices in our everyday life.
I have not gotten that far into the book but I can already see how effective putting some of these positive phrases into my everyday jargon will be on my life. I’ll follow up with a book review when I finish this book.
In the meantime, how was your first Monday of 2016?
